The River Oaks Fire Department is a formerly known, Volunteer Fire Department in a suburb of Fort Worth. Since 2013, ROFD has been a part-time, stipend paid, fire department. ROFD is staffed by about 30 part time paid employees who work 12 hour shifts on a rotating schedule. The station is staffed by 3 personnel 24/7. All members are ECA,EMT-Basic, or Paramedic certified as well as TCFP or SFFMA certified firefighters. Many members are career firefighters for surrounding departments in the DFW area. All equipment is provided and certifications are maintained through CE's paid for by the department as well as shift based training. There are currently three shifts (A, B, C) and each has a Captain, two Lieutenants, two Engineers, and several firefighters. The department covers an area of four square miles with a population of approximately 9,000 and runs about 1000 Fire/EMS calls per year. The department is very involved in our community. We train our citizens on various safety issues throughout the year. We are also involved with school carnivals, parades, car shows, MDA, food drives and other civic events that occur throughout the year.
The River Oaks Volunteer Fire Department was organized in October of 1946. Up until 2013, nearly all of the volunteer personnel lived in the city and responded from their homes when calls came across their pagers. Currently there are 3 firefighters on shift 24/7.
